Safety Director

Job Responsibilities

The Safety Director will lead and manage all safety related functions and activities across the company including developing policies and procedures, leading all safety-related committees and coordinating safety activities with all projects and departments. The Corporate Safety Director will have a thorough understanding of the health and safety regulatory process and be responsible for determining the application of and compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Create and lead strategic safety initiatives
  • Create and maintain a safety culture with active teammate involvement
  • Develop, implement, perform, or arrange all training programs in support of health and safety needs
  • Influence and work with project teams and the executive team to increase safety awareness and knowledge
  • Share best practices between project teams and company-wide
  • Maintain positive relationships with regulatory, subcontractor, and other peer safety professionals
  • Implement health and safety programs and procedures, including the development of policies and procedures
  • Ensure safety policies are in keeping with OSHA, other safety regulations and company initiatives including federal, state, and municipal safety standards
  • Ensure the company s safety policies and procedures are being applied consistently across all projects
  • Proactively investigate unsafe acts and determine corrective actions and necessary follow up
  • Supports project Teams
  • Set safety inspection criteria and expectations; analyze data and identify trends in performance and incidents
  • Ensure that root cause analysis of near miss incidents or accidents are understood and proactively drive corrective actions quickly
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and consensus standards
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement internal and external safety training materials/courses
  • Evaluate the status of supervisory teammates completion of required training
  • Chair and facilitate Safety Steering Committee
  • Additional duties as assigned

Travel

Travel is primarily local to job site locations in and around Nebraska

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related degree
  • Experience in construction safety preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred, or CHST or equivalent safety designation
  • OSHA 500 Instructor Certification preferred
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications
  • Safety Train-the-Trainer Certification
  • Competent person status in the following areas: excavation, confined space, fall protection
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Expert working knowledge and experience with health and safety standards and regulations
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written verbal communication skills, along with the ability to interact with all levels of management and teammates
  • Self-motivated and strong organizational skills
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Comfortable in a fast paced and growing environment

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • This role requires the ability to work outdoors and in all weather conditions, along with the ability to navigate and work in a variety of settings
  • This role requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and regularly adjust heavy objects
  • This role must always maintain safety procedures to avoid injury
